Over the past few years, the County has been working on updating the County Land Use Code. This process evolved to include facilitated sessions to develop a shared vision, a citizen's roundtable and Code Advisory Committee to identify desired outcomes to be incorporated in the Code, and finally, the Planning Commission preparing a draft Code for review and comment. After two years of hard work the DRAFT CODE is now being made available for review.
Information is available on the Planning and Zoning page under Land Use Code Updates .

The third in our series of public meetings will be held to continue to gain insight into the development of a site Master Plan for the Chaffee County Fairgrounds. To be held in the community meeting room, this is your opportunity to give your ideas and critical view of what could be done with the future of the Fairgrounds!
The meeting is designed to gain input for the development of a Master Plan for the best possible use of the limited acreage available.
As stated in past sessions, ideas include: organic gardening, small products festivals, rallies, urban farming, destination playgrounds, and/or new agricultural end products such a local brews and spirits. Of course this would be in addition to our already great annual county fair!
Come meet with us at the Fairgrounds, 10165 County Road 120 in Poncha Springs. This is your chance to help shape how the Fairgrounds will be used for several years to come!

From November 1st until June 15th this road is not maintained beyond Denny Creek Trailhead. Motor vehicles (except snowmobiles, snowcats) are not permitted. Violators are warned that road conditions are not suitable for travel. The cost of rescue of persons or vehicles shall be borne by the violator.
In the fall gates are open so hunters can access the area. The road is plowed, if necessary, to the top of the pass prior to November 1st. If there is snowfall over the rest of the county as well, the main collectors and other county roads take precedence; therefore County Road 306 may be plowed on the 1st or 2nd day.
Three days after the close of hunting season, the gates are closed but not locked. The Road and Bridge Department will go to the top of the pass after that three days to check for vehicles and people. The gates will be locked after all is clear.
In the spring signs state that June 15th is the day the pass will open. However, the Road and Bridge Department will try and have Cottonwood Pass open before Memorial Day, depending on snowfall.
Gunnison County does not have snow removal on their side of the pass.
On August 7, 2012 the Board of Commissioners adopted Ordinance No. 2012-02 - "An Ordinance Modifying the Operation of Off-Highway Vehicles on Certain County Road and Providing Penalties for Violation of Such Ordinance."
The most recent completed Chaffee County Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy draft plan is now available on our County Administration page. The CEDS is intended to lead to the formulation and implementation of a program that creates higher skill, higher wage jobs, raise income levels, diversify the economy and improve the quality of life, while protecting the environment.
